Freedom House currently seeks an unpaid Intern for our Latin America program at our Washington D.C. office.
Basic Functions

The intern will assist in administrative duties and research on issues of relevance to democracy and human rights in Latin America. A main responsibility will be assisting in the planning and maintenance of an online, Spanish language publication. Also, the intern will provide administrative and logistical support, including reporting, editing, and database maintenance.

Specific Duties

• Collect articles submitted for publication for an online publication on democracy and human rights in Latin America • Assist in website maintenance of online publication • Literature review to be used in the preparation of briefing materials and proposal narratives • Monitor and report on key events in Latin America, and prepare summaries of issues including elections, status of relevant legislation, and other topics as needed • Provide travel and event logistics as needed • Assist program staff with electronic and hard copy filing and database management

Qualification:
Knowledge and Skills
• Native-level fluency in Spanish and English, oral and written. • Excellent organizational and writing skills • Knowledge of democracy and human rights issues in Latin America

Last-year undergraduate students, graduate students or recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Must have or be seeking a degree in political science, international relations, or a related field. A Spanish language writing sample is a welcome addition to your application, though it is not required.

Other Requirements

Candidate must be able to offer at least a 20 hour work week commitment for a minimum period of three months.

The New America Foundation is continually seeking enthusiastic intern applicants to assist the Economic Growth Program at the New America Foundation. The Economic Growth Program at the New America Foundation is one of Washington's most dynamic and innovative foreign and economic policy centers situated at the nexus of strategy, policy and politics.
The Smart Globalization Initiative will inform the way American policy-makers approach global economic integration and the American economy. Its overriding goal is to make globalization work better for the economy by advancing a competitiveness and economic growth agenda that seeks to rebuild America's productive middle-class and rebalance the global economy.

Primary Responsibilities

• Substantive research to support the Economic Growth Program in general and the following areas:

1. Smart Globalization

2. Global Strategic Finance Initiative

• Content development for ASP's various policy blogs.

• Administrative support to the program associate as directed, including staffing events at New America.

• Other tasks as directed.


Qualification:
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
• Enrollment in a undergraduate foreign policy or economics program;

• Proven research and analytical skills, with a clear substantive interest in one of the initiatives listed above;

• Strong writing and editing abilities;

• Familiarity with internet research tools;

• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment;

• Be a flexible and enthusiastic team player; and

• Relevant language skills a plus but not required (Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, Hebrew, Farsi, etc.)
