I am seeking a motivated, independent fall intern from a business/entrepreneurship program to work with me (Dr. Cat Shrier, President/Founder of Watercat Consulting LLC) directly on positioning my company to be able to continue and expand its services in water resources policy and planning, providing services to federal agencies and other mission-driven organizations on innovative approaches to sustainable water resources planning and management (see description of Watercat below and review statement of qualifications, capabilities statement, and related materials on website www.watercatconsulting.com).



The intern’s objective will be to learn to support women owned small businesses providing water/environmental services to be economically sustainable and compliant with/supported by current federal contracting requirements/opportunities, to learn project management skills, and learn how the “business” of water and environmental policy is done. Specific Fall internship tasks may include:

- Supporting completion of certification process for Economically Disadvantaged Woman-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB) under new Small Business Administration program, including required financial documents and incorporation paperwork for the limited liability company (LLC).

- Support development of accounting systems in compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulations, and related contracting systems.

- Supporting development of teaming arrangements and strategic alliances with other WOSBs, meetings with Contracting Officers at federal and other water agencies, and other steps towards utilizing the EDWOSB status to generate contracts.

There may also be opportunities for intern to volunteer/accompany me to meetings with federal agencies on funding priorities; the UN Summit on a Global Water Awareness and Education Strategy; events with women business owners providing services in the water, energy and environment sectors (I have served as co-chair of the “Energy, Environment, and Entrepreneurs” program for Women Impacting Public Policy, and as chair of the Water Issues Group for Women’s Council on Energy and the Environment); the 40th Anniversary on Women in Science where I am scheduled to speak on the status of women in sustainability consulting, and “cleantech” business plan reviews and the Angel Venture Forum DC at the National Press Club in October (see www.angelventureforum.com).
