More / LessDescription Machik is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization working to develop new opportunities for education, capacity-building and innovation on the Tibetan plateau. Founded on a core commitment to the ideals of service and engagement, Machik works to develop new opportunities for education and training, as well as supporting initiatives that advance innovative and solutions-oriented approaches to the challenges of community revitalization and sustainability. By providing new resources, networks, tools and technology, our goal is to establish a portal for developing new partnerships and synergies that can help create alternative pathways toward a strong, healthy and more sustainable future on the Tibetan plateau.

Our work is currently organized around six themes: Education, Conservation and Green Technology, Women's Initiatives, Economic Opportunities, Multimedia and Digital Technology, and Social Entrepreneurship .

The community-based model for development makes a wide range of disciplines relevant to Machik programming both in the field and for daily operations in the US. Experience in areas such as international education, community development, conservation, engineering and public health would be especially welcome. We also welcome support in areas such as marketing, graphic design, web development and office administration.

Internships are available year round and admission is rolling. Scheduling is flexible, but candidates are expected to commit to regular hours for the agreed duration. Students are responsible for academic credit arrangements if desired and should communicate any relevant requirements when applying. All internships are unpaid, but students are encouraged to search for fellowship or other funding sources through their university career centers.
